How to Apply

Research programs at Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs). Use the IRCC DLI list to verify eligibility. Consider location, costs, and co-op opportunities.

Apply to University

Submit your application with transcripts, language test scores (IELTS/TOEFL), letters of recommendation, and a statement of purpose.

Apply for Study Permit

After receiving your LOA, apply online for a study permit. Include proof of funds, GIC (if applicable), medical exam, and biometrics.

Prepare for Arrival

Book flights, arrange accommodation, and prepare all original documents. Download the ArriveCAN app and understand quarantine requirements if applicable.

Arrive & Settle In

Present your POE Letter at the border to get your study permit. Apply for a SIN (Social Insurance Number) and open a Canadian bank account.

A Designated Learning Institution (DLI) is a school approved by a provincial or territorial government to host international students. You must attend a DLI to be eligible for a study permit.

Yes, full-time students at DLIs can work off-campus up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during scheduled breaks. No separate work permit is needed.

The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) is valid for the length of your study program, up to a maximum of 3 years. Programs less than 8 months are not eligible.

A Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of CAD 20,635 can be used as proof of funds for your study permit application under the Student Direct Stream (SDS).
